Burial Society Comb

Silver burial society comb made in France and adorned with hand engraved ornaments. The comb is used for ritually preparing the body of the deceased for burial in accordance with Jewish custom. The ritual is usually performed by a special group of volunteers, the “holy society” (chevra kaddisha). The ceremony, performed to show respect for the deceased, involves washing, dressing, and positioning the body for interment.
