Oil Lamp from Mount Hebron Excavations

Clay oil lamp dating from the Iron Age, c. 800 BCE. It was found at the Mount Hebron Excavations, Israel. King David named Hebron the first capital city of Judah before moving it to Jerusalem several years later. According to the Torah, Hebron is the burial place of Abraham and Sarah. In May 1976, Yigal Griffel, acting Mayor of Tel Aviv, presented this oil lamp to the Lord Mayor of Sydney Leo Port.
