Photograph of the Meyer Brothers

Photograph of the five Meyer brothers of Amsterdam—Ernst, Kurt, Hans, Paul, and Gert. Hans and Gert perished in Mauthausen but the others survived. Ernst went to England, Kurt made his way to France, and Paul escaped to Spain.
When Paul was captured and interned in a Spanish P.O.W. camp, he pretended to be a Canadian soldier by the name of Freddy Kingston. Several months later, the Red Cross and British Consulate secured his release. He joined the Jewish Brigade in Palestine and served with British officers in various campaigns against German and Italian forces.
