Toy Boat

Charles Feldman's father Icek (Isaac) made this ship for him while he was in an internment camp in France, 1941-1942. The camp, Pithiviers, is engraved on the side, as is the name of the boat 'Charles'. The family's apartment was looked after by the concierge during the war, and the ship was eventually returned to its rightful owner. Icek perished in Auschwitz. Charles survived by hiding in Catholic orphanages in France.
