The Sydney Jewish Museum guide course Generation to Generation (G2G) is an intergenerational education program that seeks to give participants a deep knowledge of Holocaust history and to embed Survivor testimony into the memory of later generations in order to keep their precious stories alive.
A pilot G2G course was run in 2004 and followed by intensive programs in 2006 and 2010. The result of these two programs has been the addition of a new generation of guides to the Sydney Jewish Museum, without whom our education programs simply could not function.
The program encompasses the complementary themes of history and memory and comprises educational seminars focusing on Holocaust history, oral testimony and issues arising from the process of intergenerational transmission of memory. The academic learning process is further enhanced by ongoing contact with Survivors in a one-on-one mentoring program. Participants will also learn about Jewish history, culture and tradition and in particular the history of Jews in Australia.
The SJM will not be running a G2G course in 2012.
