Now in her nineties, Edith Szanto writes her extraordinary life story from a little cafe table in a Sydney shopping centre.With her younger brother Janos as her sole surviving family, she is alone in the world. She tells of her childhood in the First World War,and growing up in avant-garde Budapest between the wars. She documents the closing down of Jewish life and her family’s deportation to Auschwitz.
