In 2004 the Sydney Jewish Museum launched Generation to Generation - a guide training program focused on the 'third generation'. This program is the first of its kind in Australia. The program is comprised of three sections focusing on the complementary themes of memory, history, and transmission. These themes are addressed through a unique Survivor mentoring program, educational seminars focusing on Holocaust history and workshops centred on the related issues of generational transmission.
Across the world, Holocaust Museums are questioning what will happen when their eyewitnesses - the Survivors - are no longer here to tell their stories. Encouraging the third generation - who are the last generation that will have personalised contact with Holocaust survivors - to maximise this privilege and learn Survivor stories will enable the next generation of guides to not only pass this heritage on but to also counterattack Holocaust denial and revisionism. The program provides an opportunity to learn the history of the Holocaust and to grapple with the immensity of its legacy, laying the foundations for meaningful Holocaust education into the next generation and beyond. The program will be offered on an annual basis. It is an intensive educational experience and a considerable time commitment is required from participants. If you are interested in participating in this program, please contact: The Education Department SYDNEY JEWISH MUSEUM 148 Darlinghurst Rd, Darlinghurst 2010 Tel: 02 9360 7999 or email education@sjm.com.au Other Links: Community Stories Meeting the Past Generation to Generation | ||||||||||||||||||
