"Teaching the Holocaust" is a compilation of lesson plans, resource and background materials that enable and support teachers wishing to educate about the Holocaust, anti racism, human rights and civics and citizenship. Suitable across the curriculum and easily linked to syllabus outcomes and indicators, these lessons have particular pertinence to the English, History, HSIE, Legal Studies, Society and Culture, Visual Arts and Studies in Religion syllabi. This resource will enable teachers to:
  • Engage students in the study of Nazi Germany and Holocaust history and encourage them to relate this knowledge to current events and issues
  • Provide a forum for exploring the background to Jewish migration to Australia and Australia's immigration history post World War II
  • Place current understandings of multiculturalism into a historical context and give meaning to its development as a response to racism and bigotry
  • Challenge students to evaluate moral and ethical action across religious and philosophical boundaries and, subsequently, re-evaluate their personal motivations and decisions
  • Provide students with further opportunities for personal research and guided learning
  • Provide teachers with a list of annotated text, fiction and non fiction, films and videos
  • Provide a broad range of lesson plans and worksheets
"Teaching the Holocaust" is available from the Sydney Jewish Museum for $29.95 each for the Senior Handbook and $19.95 for the Junior Handbook (plus postage).
